XIX INTERNATIONAL BALLET FESTIVAL OF MIAMI / 2014

 

PRESENTED BY:MIAMI HISPANIC BALLET & AMERICAN AIRLINESIn 2014, Miami Hispanic Ballet will present the 19th edition of the International Ballet Festival of Miami (IBFM). The Festival, the only one of its kind in the State of Florida, is responsible for bringing to Miami-Dade County the works of over 200 artists from more than 20 ballet companies representing countries from Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America. The festival incorporates film, art, literature and live performances to provide an event that serves the diverse audience of Miami-Dade County. The festival will take place at six different venues across Miami-Dade County including, Chapman Conference Center at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus, Miami Beach Cinematheque, Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center, Colony Theater and Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater, and Dade County Auditorium

The festival will invite national and international young ballet artists that are gold medal winners of the Youth America Grand Prix for a special performance. On the Friday matinee performance, MHB will invite public schools to attend this unique event free of charge.

Etoiles Classical Grand Gala Performance

Principal Dancers from different companies from around the world perform . "A Life for Dance" Lifetime Achievement Award is presented during this Gala. “A Life for Dance” Award honors an outstanding figure of the dance world this years award goes to renowned French Ballerina Hélène Trailine   .

Festival Closing Gala of the Stars Performance

Festival Closing Gala of the Stars Performance

Principal Dancers perform at this Gala with a different program. The “Criticism and Culture of Ballet” Award is presented at the Festival Closing Gala of the Stars. This award honors a prominent dance critic. Past recipients were Clive Barnes (New York Times), Roger Salas (El Pais, Spain), Erik Aschengreen (Dance Magazine and Balletto Oggi), 2011 Alfio Agostini (Ballet 2000), 2012 Rene Sirvin (Le Figaro, France) and 2013 Clement Crisp (English Reviewer).Date: Sunday, September 14 / 2014, at 5:00pm

II. COLLATERAL ACTIVITIES

 

A) Poster Unveiling of the Official XIX International Ballet Festival of Miami 2014 (Invitation Only)

Cocktail reception and unveiling of the official Festival Poster created by Cuban artist  Tatiana Riquelme

and opening of the art exhibit inspired by dance

B) Dance Film Series

Miami Hispanic Ballet develops the Dance Film Series in collaboration with the Dance Film Association (New York), the Cinemathèque de la Danse de Paris, Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus, Miami Beach Cinematheque and Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center

Date: August 30 - 31  Venue: Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center.

C) Workshops

Classes of classical ballet, modern dance and jazz will be offered during the weekdays of the festival. The instructors are National and International guest Ballet Masters 

 

The workshops will be from 4:00 pm through 8:00 pm and the classes are offered to intermediate and advance dance students. Date: September 1 - 12 / 2014   Venue: Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center

 

 

D) Dance Master classes

Invited students will have the chance to learn new dance styles and techniques with the Festival’s invited principal dancers and artistic directors  Date: September 14 / 2014

E) Art Exhibit Series

A thematic exhibition based on art inspired by danceThe Exhibit will include works by renowned Cuban artist Tatiana Riquelme

F)  Book  Presentation 

A special presentation  for the release and signing of a book  by Roger Salas, famous dance critic and recognized Cuban  journalist, " El País".
